Abstract

Abstract:The learning process in STIKES Katolik St. Vincentius A Paulo Surabaya not only through lecture in class, but include nursing competence. Nursing competence should be trained by the student. They perform skills in the laboratory, so they really competent. It's just that sometimes frequent train the students impress themselves upon lab exams only. This study aims to identify the competencies of students in the application of nursing actions on the respiratory system II courses with learning model of peer group learning. This study used a pre-post test design. The variables of this research is the application of learning methods peer tutoring (peer group) to improve the competence of students. The population in this study is the nursing student at 4 semesters. Large sample of 62 respondents. The sampling technique used is total sampling. Collecting data by observation sheet checklist of nursing competence in the therapy of oxygen and nebulizer. Competency assessment done 2 times before and after applying the peer group. Wilcoxon statistical test results with a significant level of α = 0.05 p = 0.000. This means that there is influence of the peer group model study on student competence in the application of nursing actions on the respiratory system II courses. This means that it is necessary the introduction of peer group learning techniques learning in every subject that particularly require the application of the nursing actions that can improve the competence of nursing
