KEKUATAN OTOT BERHUBUNGAN DENGAN TINGKAT KETERGANTUNGAN LANSIA DENGAN PENDEKATAN TEORI KEPERAWATAN DORORTHEA OREM

ABSTRACT
Age-related changes on elderly are namely Musculoskeletal system changes, by which Muscle
Strength Degradation of elderly are caused, it will also increase the daily-life dependency to other
people. In St. Joseph Senior Home Care, Surabaya, Elderly with good-normal muscle strength will
need full/part-time care due to their dependency level. This research’s purpose is analyzing Muscle
Strength Correlation with Elderly Dependency Level based on Dorothea Orem Nursing Theory
Approach, using correlation design and cross sectional approach. Independent Variable is Elderly
Muscle Strength, and Elderly Dependency Level is the dependent variable. The research took place
in St. Joseph Senior Home Care, Surabaya, with sample age of 60 years-old and above, who don’t
require bed-rest, not terminally-ill, and willing to participate as sample with the total of 30 people.
Research sampling method is Random Sampling and collected with observation sheet. Muscle
Strength tabulation is collected using Manual Muscle Testing (MMT), and Dependency Level
using Dorothea Orem’s Nursing Theory. Rank Spearman correlation research with the use of SPSS
16 for windows show p = 0,000, correlation co-efficient + 0,635 conclude positive connection.
There is a close connection between variables, where p < 0,05 means H0 is rejected, shows Muscle
Strength Correlation with the Elderly Dependency Level with Dorothea Orem’s Theory. This
points out: as human age, Dependency Level will also increase. Researcher suggests caregivers to
give extra/special attentions to elderly with difficulties in their daily activities, Elderly with goodnormal
muscle strength should be morally supported so they can maintain/increase their
dependency.
